I think you are right, here " reichlich " is used to beautify the verb " hatte ", meanwhile, the "Zeit" is different from the other words, normally in German, we don't say "Ich habe reichliche Zeiten". Normally it's the same to the uncountable name-words, such as " Ich habe reichlich Geld. ". Butto the countable words,normally then it's different, such as you can say " Ich habe reichliche Probleme", but you don't say " Ich habe reichlich Problem.".
Here is another sentence for example: "Wir möchten gerne bleiben, doch wir haben keine Zeit."
gerne = adverb, because it belongs to the verb and it´s a describtion how the verb is
bleiben = verb
haben = verb

At the end, I am sorry, sometimes you can just try to follow the way to speak as a German, just try to feel it, some of the sentences they are just like Chinese or other languages, people are used to speak in the unlogical way, just try to accept it. $汗$
