It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,—

With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
& H. l) ?! O6 d2 _And mouth with myriad subtleties.

Why should the world be over-wise,
; O1 W) G$ ]9 ~In counting all our tears and sighs?
% t' ]! _- T8 t& y" ?Nay, let them only see us, while, }) F/ J$ R- I% V6 C8 w0 F
We wear the mask.4 R( [% C4 e; M" }: s( V

We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries1 K/ z3 \- z; `$ s' K; V3 F2 _
To thee from tortured souls arise.
