Um Punkt 10 Uhr setzte sich der Zug mit den Worten „Im Doubliertritt, Marsch!“ vorm Neuen Rathaus in Bewegung. Zum ersten Mal an der Spitze: Oberbürgermeister Stephan Weil. Ministerpräsident Christian marschierte beim Collegium ehemaliger Bruchmeister mit. Knapp drei Stunden marschierten Schützen, Musikanten und weitere Teilnehmer vom Neuen Rathaus bis zum Festplatz. Insgesamt 12.000 Teilnehmer, 128 internationale Musikkapellen und 17 Festwagen bildeten mit 14 Kilometern den längsten Schützenausmarsch der Welt. Tausende Schaulustige säumten den Weg durch die Innenstadt Hannovers, jubelten den Teilnehmern zu. Für die jungen Gäste gab es Bonbons, Weingummi und viele weitere Sachen, die auch von den Festwagen in die Menge geworfen wurden.
