villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.  The
3 u& g  d3 o" G' q. g& B2 _villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out
to the forest, and started catching them. The man
bought thousands at $10 and as supply started to diminish,
) V9 {. p, E8 s* Dthey became harder to catch, so the villagers stopped
their effort.

The man then
+ @, [' k8 S0 x4 u4 Oannounced that he would now pay $20 for each  one. This renewed
the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys
6 l% [8 T3 |% c+ W$ C# pagain.   But soon the supply diminished even further and
& k& p+ |& ^, othey were ever harder to catch, so people started going back to
2 n$ I1 O: {) S6 ]; ltheir farms and forgot about monkey catching. The man increased his
price to $25 each and the supply of monkeys became so
sparse that it was an effort to even see a monkey, much
less catch one.

The man now
9 _  o- H1 `' I6 O/ o  z7 pannounced that he would buy monkeys for $50! However, since he had to
go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on his
behalf.

1 T; L6 N! D/ v1 K( g' Twas away the assistant told the villagers. 'Look at all these monkeys
( A+ |; Y$ M1 a% M! i1 S9 Iin the big cage that the man  has bought. I will sell them to
3 t; H0 g0 [" e# C- t& a+ gyou at $35 each and when the man returns from the city, you can sell
them to him for $50 each.'

The villagers
2 t$ }" {4 f9 ^3 B- L( h# Orounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys. They never
& j. M% v4 W. h% @+ {& Rsaw the man nor his assistant again and once again there were monkeys
* D% e+ h; D( U* E4 Deverywhere.
