Of course English is quite important. Sometimes it’s more important than German. Coz even for the most German companies English is the common firm language. Just for the ease of the international communication.

I have undergone with what you said before. The more fluently I could speak German, the more broken was my English. Even when I spoke English, I would say some German words spontaneously. It is certainly pretty embarrassing, but also normal for us. Coz both of them are our foreign languages. And the shxt is, they are so similar to each other, so that we cannot tell the difference sometimes.

Since I got a GF, who speaks only English, Portuguese, Japanese and some Cantonese, I have to speak English more often than before. I don’t mean that you have to find a GF like that, but just give you some chances to talk. If you don’t have any partners, just talk to yourself every day, maybe for tow hours or something. And reading the newspaper and literatures you like in English will be also pretty helpful. It’ll take a little time to catch up your former level, but be patient. After a month you will see your enormous progress.

Good luck with your interview. $ok$

But you have to be careful when doing so!

“I have begun to learn English.” This sentence is what a German would say - but not a native English speaker, unfortunately. You should use the simple past here. So:“I began to learn English.”

“It makes fun” is another literal translation from German; in English, you say “It is fun!”

Don‘t cry! It is not easy to learn two languages at the same time, so you are doing very well already!

I agree that English films should help you. Maybe try some comedy series, like Friends; they are not as long and they teach you useful language!

i agree with u. i like "sex & city" very much and it helped really a lot.

u r right. since we've lived in germany for a long time, we would speak english with german grammar.(eg. "i can sth do" instead of "i can do sth"$汗$) i admit that it's not easy to shift round it as u wanna.

chengming 发表于 2007-2-16 11:39

to shift round itGood example, the correct word order should be “to shift it around”. :)
Also, it might be more appropriate to say: “to switch between the two”
